Ride Big. Live Big.

hsfLogoEN

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women. As a matter of fact, every 7 minutes, someone in Canada dies from heart disease or stroke. Employees of Stance Healthcare will be riding the Heart & Stroke Big Bike on June 5th, 2017 to help change that.

Will you help us by making a donation today?  Stance Healthcare will be matching all donations, in an effort to help us reach our goal of $3000!

All of the money raised through Big Bike helps support the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Donations are used to help fund critical research that’s preventing heart disease and stroke, saving lives and supporting survivors and their families.

Making our Workplace a Little Cleaner

Earth Day 2017 was a big success! In partnership with the city of Kitchener, almost 50 Stance Healthcare volunteers participated in a 20 min clean-up that helped make the environment around our workplace a little cleaner!  Originally scheduled for a rainy Friday, we decided to defer the clean-up until April 24th so we would also have the opportunity to soak up some sun (it also made for some nicer photos)!

Sustainability Matters

story8Earlier this year an article titled “Dear Manufacturers: Sustainability Counts” appeared on the Interiors + Sources website.  The article highlighted the importance of sustainable manufacturing practices, and how these stories often get lost among the excitement of new product developments.  In response to that article, I thought it would be of interest to share Stance Healthcare’s commitment to environmental, social and economically sustainable business practices.

As a family founded business, Stance Healthcare sees sustainability as an opportunity to evolve and adapt; to continuously look for ways that will keep the business thriving and minimize negative environmental impacts.  Nowadays sustainability isn’t only about being a good corporate citizen and the ‘feel good’ factor – it’s an industry standard.

The sustainability measures of institutional furniture manufacturers are recognized through level® certifications, which conform to the BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard. BIFMA International is the recognized leader in developing standards for the North American office and institutional furniture industry.  It was created to deliver the most open and transparent means of evaluating and communicating the environmental and social impacts of furniture products in the built environment.

Working towards product level® certifications, Stance Healthcare’s sustainability efforts began with a Sustainability Management Systems Team, which is part of the company’s overall management system.  Among other activities, the team is responsible for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing, and maintaining the Corporate Sustainability Policy. In addition, as part of our Sustainability Management System, Stance Healthcare has implemented a zero waste-to-landfill initiative.  We are continuously working to meet this goal through objectives and targets that employ strategies that will, over time, divert all waste from our manufacturing operations from being sent to the landfill.

Throughout the past few years we have implemented many new recycling programs that have significantly aided in our endeavor to reduce our waste-to-landfill by 2020. Included in our efforts are programs for the recycling of shrink wrap, wooden pallets, scrap metal, toner cartridges, plastic components, coffee pods, and organic waste. By far, our most obvious success has come from the implementation of a single stream recycling program throughout our facility. We’ve also purchased reusable coffee mugs and water bottles, prior to discontinuing the purchase of disposable coffee cups and water bottles.

As sustainability relates to energy usage, we are very proud to have reduced our energy usage by 26%* during the first year of obtaining our level® certification.  This was mainly accomplished through the installation of an energy efficient HVAC system and replacing the lighting across the entire organization to LED.  At Stance Healthcare, we recognize that our sustainability efforts are ongoing and must continue to evolve.  We welcome the challenge of discovering innovative solutions that will help us achieve our ongoing sustainability objectives and better the environment for future generations.

CEU Program Hosted by Stance Healthcare

Understanding the Rapidly Changing Healthcare Market

As a design professional, CEU’s can help improve your competencies, knowledge and skills in specific areas of interior design.  At Stance Healthcare we are advocates of continuing education within the industry, especially as it relates to healthcare.  That’s why we decided to launch our own CEU program with the support of industry professionals and approval from the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC).

With the Affordable Care Act (ACA) being a hot topic of conversation, it’s important to remain educated on the rapidly changing healthcare market.  Our course Side Effects is designed to enhance basic understanding of current policy issues and some of the secondary effects we see in the healthcare industry. With 20+ years’ experience, Suzanne Story teaches strategies for CEU Side Effects Imageapproaching challenges and provides examples of planning, design and emerging markets as ways to capitalize on the changes.

By taking a broad look at these ideas, we hope to inspire you to find some creative ways to turn challenges into new opportunities.  It is an ever-changing healthcare landscape and examining successes, trends and partnerships can also lead to ideas for new revenue streams.

Stance Healthcare is proud to be a bronze partner of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID).  We believe Certified Healthcare Interior Designers are an important asset to the industry as they understand healthcare design challenges, and work towards enhancing the health, quality and safety of healthcare interior environments.  Stance Healthcare and the AAHID are both committed to transforming the healthcare environment into one for healing, improving outcomes and maximizing efficiency.

About AAHID
AAHID is a nonprofit organization committed to the development and administration of the only certification program for healthcare interior designers. It is not a membership organization, but rather an organization that board-certifies interior designers in the U.S. and Canada that specialize in acute care, ambulatory care, and residential care facility design.

Raising Awareness for Mental Health

Last month Stance Healthcare participated in Bell Let’s Talk Day 2017.  If you’re not familiar with the campaign, each time a tweet was sent on January 25th using #BellLetsTalk, Bell donated 5 cents more to mental health initiatives.  On January 25th, and for two weeks leading up to Bell Let’s Talk Day, @StanceHealth joined the conversation, raising awareness about behavioral health and mental illness on twitter.  Our actions helped raise $6,585,250 for mental health in Canada.
