Industry Voices Q&A: Carl Kennedy, CEO, Stance Healthcare
How has your company evolved over the years? Our origin story began with the healthcare experience squarely in focus, and that focus has evolved into Stance now offering the industry’s largest breadth of healthcare furniture. This means we’re the only manufacturer in the industry capable of furnishing any clinical space within a healthcare facility. This growth is the result of intentional investment in product details that truly support improved lives—for patients, care providers, and visitors. A healthcare focus got us here because of the high standards these settings demand of our products, from infection control, to extreme durability, to comfort and ease when it might often be least expected. In the almost two decades since Stance started, we’ve been able o build upon these standards through all of our product innovations, so they can perform in demanding 24/7 spaces.
How important is customization? How has it enhanced your products or relationship with clients? Our team is widely known to be easy to work with—we’re friendly, nimble, and offer some of the fastest lead times in the industry. Part of delivering this exceptional customer experience means looking at every facility as unique; working with our designers and facility planners on custom orders is core to that. It’s made all the difference with our clients. Despite having the capacity to furnish almost any given room in a facility with Stance products, quantity will never outpace quality. We strive to ensure our products never feel “out of the box”, but rather, make a unique, positive impact on whatever environment they support. We like to say we offer a rare intersection between one-stop-shop and custom shop, since we deliver both an easy and highly personalized experience.
What do you have planned for the upcoming year? We are heading into a busy season of new product releases, with the HCD Conference being ground zero to experience our latest lines in person. One collection I’m particularly excited about is our HCD award-winning Flo series for Behavioral Health, which will soon add a whole suite of additional products, including a double-pedestal table, stool, rocker, and an occasional table.
What is your company’s process for creating new products? New products often come from listening to our customers. Keeping a two-way dialogue with our facility partners before, during, and after the project installation is key to informing a more thoughtful way forward. We’ll never just churn products out for the sake of producing more; each of our products offer details that push the category to consider more about the end-user’s experience, and how furniture can best support that experience.
